2026 Butterfly Monitoring

25.03.2026 | Latest News

Butterfly monitoring is an important part of FOHW work on Hell Wath. Butterfly monitoring will begin in mid-April and take place weekly until the end of September, with each 7 day window beginning on a Saturday. Monitoring will be undertaken by teams of volunteers walking a designated transect walk around Hell Wath, recording the numbers and species of butterflies seen on the way round. The walk takes about 1 hour to complete. Results are forwarded to the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme.

A weekly rota has been set up with a monitoring team allocated to each week. Each team will be responsible for arranging the day and time for their butterfly transect walk, taking into account the weather forecast.
