Himalayan Balsam Bash – St Wilfrid’s School

Pupils from St Wilfrid’s School have volunteered to help by pulling Himalayan Balsam on Hell Wath. They will be accompanied and supervised by their teachers, but any additional volunteers are welcomed.

A good place for them to tackle is HB growing in and around the edges of the lower meadows, starting from meadow between the pond and the quarry. This is a large area that can accommodate the large number of pupils expected and work in this area will help us control the HB. Scything helped to clear a lot of HB in the meadow next to the pond last year, but individual plants have grown this year and it would be great to have these pulled.

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear – gardening gloves are strongly recommended as HB often grows amongst prickly brambles and hawthorn. Please bring any refreshments you may require during this activity.
