Checking the BAT Boxes

Time: 10.30am
Meet at: Top of the Giant Steps ( at the end of the Choir School Path )
Duration: Up to two hours to check all the boxes

Following International Bat Night on 29th August, John Pearse ( a Trustee and licensed bat surveyor ) will be conducting a check of the the bat boxes on Hell Wath. This will involve using a long extending pole with a camera on the end to look into the bat boxes to see if any bats are present. A screen at ground level enables the camera to be positioned without disturbing the bats and allows participants to view the inside of the boxes in real time. Photos and videos are recorded to enable the bat species to be identified later.

Please email our secretary at sec.fohw@gmail.com if you would like to attend this activity. Checking the bat boxes involves walking round Hell Wath, sometimes venturing into less accessible areas to view the boxes. Please wear suitable clothing for the weather and the activity, especially sturdy footwear and bring any refreshments you may need. The general risk assessment for FOHW activities can be read here.

NOTE: This activity may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
